How does Artificial Intelligence (AI) work in our society?

AI applications are adopted around the world. It can be used to raise questions and challenges related to human values, fairness, human determination, privacy, safety and accountability, among others. But, how exactly does AI fit into our daily lives?

The OECD report “Artificial Intelligence in Society” answers to this question, and show us how can AI be related to basic needs, such as health, justice, security, food, and builds a map of the AI technical, economic, use case and policy landscape.

Breaking news! The UoF Joint Post-Graduation is back on track

The world is living a challenging period, bringing with it the need for adaptations, for reinventing things and people themselves, and for searching for new solutions and plans. Despite all these consequences of the pandemic COVID-19, the UoF project has not stopped and the partnership was working hard in the (re)design of the calendar of the International Joint Post-graduation in Industry 4.0 – Digital Innovation and Transformation.

Organized together by P.PORTO, Aalto University and Warsaw University of Technology, and scheduled to start in March this year, the Post-Graduation has now a new start date: 21st of September! The students will be engaged in online synchronized lessons/activities (2 hours duration each) and also two intensive face-to-face working weeks (200 hours), enriched by autonomous work (520 hours). The post-graduation will be offered by the three Higher Education Institutions, using a digital platform (Virtual Factory) to support the online classes.

The course’s classes will be delivered in the following schedule:

  • 8.30h to 10.30h am Monday-Friday (Portugal)
  • 9.30h to 11.30h am Monday-Friday (Poland)
  • 10.30h to 12.30h am Monday-Friday (Finland)

And it will cover the following modules:

  • Project
  • Soft and T-skill
  • Shifting to I4.0: Change Management and IT Driven
  • Co-creation, New Business Models and Business Analytics
  • Intelligent IS and Decision Support Systems
  • Sustainable Enablers

Highlight the face-to-face working weeks in Poland and Finland, its realization will only be confirmed until the end of October 2020 – if not feasible and safe, the two weeks will be transformed into online synchronized moments.

Industry 4.0: What about know?

A global pandemic crisis whose unprecedented effects will be prolonged over time. The global lack of definition is ongoing and thus the economic restart, but the uncertainty about the duration of the process will influence the confidence levels of consumers, entrepreneurs and investors, as well as higher education institutions, enterprises, organizations and all the activity sectors. 

Giving this, and the focus of the Universities of the Future project in Industry 4.0 and the cooperation between Universities and Businesses, we would like to present, and invite you to one more interesting conference – 17th COTEC Innovation Summit 2020.

From the 4.0 to Industrial Renaissance – the Next Steps for a Post-COVID Era” is the main topic of the 17th edition of COTEC Summit, taking place at 22nd of June, counting with the participation of more than 40 speakers and international experts, in 35 sessions over 16 hours of broadcasting. During the whole day, the event will be implemented in a digital platform in multiple events such as panels with international keynote speakers, firechats, workshops, digital tech showroom, and more.

This digital conference will anticipate and debate the possibility of the yet vague concept of Europe’s “Industrial Renaissance”, converging strategies of backshoring, 4.0 technologies and innovation. All the sessions will be in English, but with the option of translation, allowing all the participants to learn more and share knowledge about:

  • Growing an innovative SME
  • Rebalancing the relationship with China
  • Are we ready for the next global crisis?
